Marin Golden Threads Outreach 2008

Our Outreach Program for this year was chosen as a way to support not only our own community but those who serve our country as well. It was decided that we would be benefactors to the San Francisco North Bay Coast Guard Spouses Club.

Being a member of both the Marin Golden Threads and the spouses club, I was especially delighted to bring the two organizations together in a worthwhile cause. The spouses club has a Layette Program that provides a free basket of items to expectant Coast Guard parents. Some of the items included in each layette are diapers, wipes, towels, clothing and a quilted blanket handmade by a local retired Coastie spouse.

Thanks to the generous hearts of our chapter members we were able to donate many wonderful things in December. Those who attended our annual Holiday Luncheon were asked to purchase or create an item. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought the large box I brought to hold the donations would be entirely filled!

When I presented the gift-wrapped box to the spouses club at their December meeting, the ladies were overwhelmed by such generosity, caring and thoughtfulness! They were particularly excited about the many hats our members crocheted and knitted.

Infant Cap Our January project further aided this Outreach Program. We learned to crochet infant caps using a few simple stitches.

Anyone interested in donating items, whether handcrafted or purchased, may bring them to the monthly meetings. I will present them at each month's CG Spouses Club meeting. I would like to personally express my sincere, hearth-felt thanks to everyone for their participation and support of my extended Coast Guard family.
